There seems to be confusion surrounding SAPI/ESAPI, shooters cut, swimmers cut... so many things and the acronyms are applied incorrectly all the time!
  • SAPI - Small Arms Protective Insert This is what the Military uses at level III (7.62x51 protection) and is ceramic
  • ESAPI - Is Enhanced Small Arms Protective Insert which is Level IV (.30-06 M2AP protection) also ceramic

Military SAPI/ESAPI Sizing:
  • Extra Small: 7.25" x 11.5"
  • Small: 8.75" x 11.75"
  • Medium: 9.5" x 12.5"
  • Large: 10.125" x 13.25"
  • Extra Large: 11" x 14"
Commercial
  • Medium: 10" x 12"
  • Large: 11" x 14"

All of our Steel plates are Commercial Sizing with SAPI shape
Everything else Swimmers cut, Shooters cut etc refers to the shape of the plate SAPI shape is standard.
  • Shooters cut removes a little more of the plate around the shoulders however it is very similar to SAPI
  • Swimmers cut is a much more drastic shoulder cut which allows for full range of motion for the shoulders (like the motion that would be needed to swim)
  • Blank steel cut is just a rectangle and I don't think anyone is selling this and if they are... you should run far and fast, because you wont be able to move your shoulders very well, if at all.
